In 2021, Namajunas made headlines for controversial comments she made leading up to a fight with Zhang Weili, a Chinese MMA fighter. Namajunas made remarks about communism and her belief in individualism, which some criticized as insensitive and politically charged.

Namajunas later clarified her comments, stating that they were not intended to be political and that she did not support any specific political ideology. The incident sparked a larger conversation about the role of athletes in politics and the pressure they face to speak out on social issues.

Personal Life

Outside of MMA, Namajunas enjoys spending time in nature and practicing yoga. She is engaged to fellow UFC fighter Pat Barry and the couple has two dogs together.
